Facing a divorce, custody case, or other family law matter can be stressful. Worrying about legal costs can add to that stress. That’s why people are often drawn to attorneys who offer free initial meetings. Some people who contact our office are disappointed to learn that we charge for consultations—until we explain what they receive.

Our goal is the same as yours: to help you get meaningful answers to your legal questions at an affordable cost. A free meeting is often brief and general, more like an introduction than a substantive consultation. At some offices, the meeting may not even be with an attorney. When you have urgent legal questions, that may not give you the guidance you need.

For most cases, we offer an initial consultation with an attorney at a reduced rate. That gives the attorney time to understand your situation, answer your questions, and offer guidance specific to your circumstances. It also gives you a chance to get to know us. If your matter does not qualify for the reduced rate, we will tell you before scheduling.

How the Process Works

First, contact our office. You’ll speak briefly by phone with our Client Advocate, who will ask some preliminary questions about your situation. This helps us schedule you with an attorney whose experience fits your needs.

Your consultation will take place by Zoom and last up to an hour. You don’t need to bring anything or prepare documents for the meeting. It may help to write down the questions you want to ask so you remember them.

During the consultation, you’ll have time to explain what’s happening and ask about the legal process, possible options, and how your case may unfold. Our experienced attorneys have helped many people with family law and estate matters. They will explain what you need to know without overwhelming you, so you can make informed decisions about what to do next.

After the Consultation

Your next steps will depend on your situation. If you’re exploring divorce options, you may want time to consider what you’ve learned. If you have been served with legal papers, you may need to act promptly. The attorney will discuss any deadlines that apply. Missing a deadline can affect your rights, so be sure to take it seriously.

If you decide you’d like to work with the attorney or our firm, you can sign a retainer agreement. You’re also welcome to take time to think about it, as long as you can meet any deadlines in your case. We’ll be here when you’re ready.

You’re Not Alone

Our goal is to help ease your anxiety about the legal process and help you feel more in control of your future. No matter what you’re facing, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Our team of experienced, compassionate attorneys and legal staff is here to help.
